Abstract
This survey was carried out to investigate the damage of hailstorm on the apple orchard in kyungbuk province in 1992. The results were summarised as follows. Apple orchards 2,633 ha were damaged by hailstorm in mid-northern and some part of southern region of kyungbuk province. The hailstorm (¥õ¡ 530 §®) hailed two times, from June 18 th to 19 th and from July 2nd to 3 th for 1 to 20 min. The larger the size of hailstone and the longer the duration of hailing, the severer the damages of hailstom on apple trees. The order of hailstorm damage on the different parts of apple tree was leaf $gt; twig $gt; fruit.
Lacerated and bruised lesions per fruit on the Fuji cultivar were less than those on the Tsugaru cultivar. The degrees of hailstorm damage on the Fuji cultivar proteted with bagging were lighter than those without bagging.
Marketablity of fruit from the severelt damaged areas was drasticaly decreased than that of funs from the slightly damaged areas, and the production percentage of marketable fruits by the bagging cultivation was about 61%, but that fruits from the nonbagging was 0%. Therefore, it was considered suggestible that bagging cultivation can be used as a countermeasure for hailstorm damage on apple fruits.
